It’s Census night here in the land Down Under. An opportunity for families to count their numbers. I’m sure there are some who can’t remember how many they have or will be suprised to discover there are more (or fewer) than expected. (where did THAT kid come from?)
I wonder what travellers do? Are there Census forms waiting on your hotel pillow along with the complimentary chocolate? What if you are camping? Did the Census people find you in the outback and pin a form to your tent?
Also, I was surprised at a couple of questions that were not asked (on the real Census). No questions about family pets. No questions about the number of hours spent watching TV or on the Internet. If the purpose of the Census is to get a snapshot of life in Aus in 2011, I’d have thought they would be relevant.
As with all activities that affect or impact the wider populace (and given we Australian’s are a sarcastic lot), there has been an active Twitter discussion going on using the hashtag #whatiwishedthecensusasked
Some of the ones I saw included:
* Did you guess who River Song was? (yes)
* Vegemite – fridge or pantry? (fridge btw)
* Bert or Ernie? (Ernie)
* Where in the world is Carmen Sandiago?
* Mac or PC? (PC but I’m thinking of getting a Mac)
* Coke or Pepsi (like you’d ever need to ask).
So what questions do you wish the Census had asked?
